Privacy Policy
DroneFly is a free safe-to-fly checker for drone pilots. It is designed to collect as little as possible. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics for advertising purposes. This policy explains the data the app uses and why.
Your location
To show conditions where you are flying, the app needs a location. You can allow your device location or type a place or postcode. Your coordinates are sent to the weather and airspace providers listed below to fetch local data. Place and postcode searches are sent to the search provider. Saved and recent locations are stored on your own device.
Fly alerts (optional)
If you turn on fly alerts, the app sends the following to our notification service so it can check conditions in the background and notify you:
- a push notification token and installation identifier for your device,
- the location you want alerts for, your time zone, drone profile and alert preferences.
This is used only to send the alerts you asked for. It is not used for advertising and is not sold. Turning alerts off requests deletion of the notification record. Invalid push tokens may be removed when the delivery service reports them. Alerts are optional, the rest of the app works without them.
What we do not do
- No account or sign-in.
- No advertising and no ad tracking.
- We do not sell or share your data with data brokers.
Third-party services
The app requests data from the following providers, either directly or through our service. Weather, map and nearby-traffic requests include the location being checked. Global space-weather requests do not need your coordinates. Providers handle network requests under their own privacy terms:
Open-Meteo (weather & air quality), NOAA SWPC (Kp index), OpenAIP (airspace), adsb.lol (aircraft traffic), Sunrise-Sunset.org (sun times), OpenStreetMap Nominatim (place search), Overpass (nearby aerodromes), and OpenStreetMap tile services (maps). Alerts are delivered via Apple Push Notification service on iOS and Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android. Hosting and the notification service run on Cloudflare.
Firebase on Android may collect an installation identifier and technical details such as app, SDK and operating-system versions to deliver notifications, maintain the service and measure version adoption. Providers may retain request and diagnostic logs, including search queries and network information, under their privacy terms.
Data retention
Saved locations and drone preferences are stored on your device. Optional alerts also store a device token, installation identifier, selected location and alert settings on our notification service. Turning alerts off requests deletion. Uninstalling alone does not guarantee immediate deletion; contact us if you need help removing a notification record. Online providers also receive network information, including your IP address and requested resource, and may retain logs under their own policies.
Children
DroneFly is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children.
